Polyphil Hair: Polynucleotides for the Scalp

PolyPhil Hair is a course of polynucleotide micro injections into the scalp. Polynucleotides are purified DNA fragments that stimulate fibroblast activity, support collagen production and encourage the formation of new blood vessels, which is the same mechanism behind our polynucleotide skin treatments.

It is worth being clear about what it is not:

• It is not a hair transplant and it does not move or add follicles.
• It is not a topical product you apply at home, although your aftercare may include one.
• It is not a single session treatment, and a single session is not how it is designed to be judged.
• It is not a replacement for a medical diagnosis if there is an underlying cause for your hair loss.

Hair grows out of skin. The follicle sits within the dermis and depends on the condition of that tissue and on the blood supply reaching it. When the scalp environment deteriorates, hair quality tends to follow.

Treating the scalp directly is therefore the point of PolyPhil Hair. The injections are placed across the area of concern so the product is distributed through the tissue rather than concentrated in one spot, using the same micro injection principles we apply to delicate areas of the face.

PolyPhil Hair is delivered as eight sessions in two phases:

• Phase one, four sessions. Spaced one to two weeks apart.
• Phase two, four sessions. Spaced three to four weeks apart.

The closer spacing at the start builds the treatment up, and the wider spacing that follows maintains it while the scalp responds. Eight sessions is the full protocol. A course of four is available where Dr Harry considers it appropriate, and he will explain at consultation which he recommends for you and why.

Regenerative treatments are assessed over a course rather than after a single visit, so progress is reviewed as you go.

PolyPhil Hair is considered for men and women who have noticed:

• Gradual thinning, particularly at the parting or the crown.
• An increase in shedding compared with what is normal for them.
• Hair that feels finer or less dense than it used to.
• Increased shedding after starting a weight loss injection, which is a common reason people ask about this treatment.

Hair loss has many causes, and several of them are medical rather than aesthetic. Thyroid disease, iron deficiency, recent illness, rapid weight loss, medication and inherited pattern hair loss all present differently and are managed differently. Part of the consultation is establishing whether something else needs investigating first, and Dr Harry will tell you if he thinks you should see your GP before starting a course.

People starting weight loss injections often report hair shedding some months in. It is one of the most common reasons patients now ask us about scalp treatment.

What we will discuss at your consultation is the timing of your shedding against the timing of your weight loss, what your nutrition looks like now, and whether the pattern you have is one that PolyPhil Hair is a sensible option for. That conversation matters more than the treatment itself, because shedding related to rapid weight change behaves differently from inherited pattern hair loss, and for some people the right answer will be to address the cause first.

A session is an appointment at either clinic in which polynucleotides are placed across the scalp through a series of micro injections. Sessions are comparable in length to a skin booster appointment.

You should expect the scalp to feel tender for a short period afterwards, and small injection points may be visible for a time. As with any injectable treatment, bruising, swelling, tenderness and, rarely, infection are possible. Dr Harry will take you through the risks that apply to you at consultation, and you will be given aftercare instructions for washing, styling and heat.

Every treatment at Dr Harry Clinic includes a complimentary review appointment within three weeks.

PolyPhil Hair is priced as follows at both clinics:

• Single session, £350.
• Course of four sessions, £1,150.
• Course of eight sessions, £2,200. This is the full protocol.
